Updates, Part Deux

So that all students will have the opportunity to receive and give feedback I am declaring certain blogs off limits as of the time stamp of this post:
  1. Oreva
  2. Jessica T.
  3. Melanie
  4. Vy
  5. Akua
I will update the list accordingly.

Additionally, some students are not (A) posting the link to their blog in the appropriate post, (B) enabling comments [although I suspect you may be moderating your comments - Tinu], or (C) complaining in your blogs about this assignment and about your disdain of AP English IV. You must post the appropriate links to earn credit for this assignment in addition to enabling comments as I am trying to provide feedback, and if I cannot complete this then you will lose points.

As for your contempt, I do not want to hear it, or rather, read it. If you suspect a post or title will not be appreciated by yours truly then change it, ASAP!

Failure to comply with these directives by the deadline (3/22, 3 pm) will result in a 0.

See you tomorrow, with your tennis shoes!

Shout Outs, Updates, and Other Useful Information

Hello My Witty Students,

Spring break is coming to a close and I hope you have taken some time for yourself.  I'm interested to hear about your thoughts on the book - special shout out to Oreva (who's completely finished!) and Jessica for completing the first part of the assignment, and half of one to Akua! - and urge you to enjoy the last weeks of your senior year. While I have pushed you, and you have often times pushed back, I am in awe by the depth you bring to class each and every day.

Enough with the schmaltz, and on to the good stuff!
  1. When we return on Monday, March 21, you will be fitness testing! That means comfortable shoes, workout clothes, and a positive attitude! Failure to bring any of these will result in endless and open mocking!
  2. As you begin posting the links to your blogs please be sure you are correctly entering the address (Stephen) or entering the address period (Shadd and Shenyse - since you both have the same initials just place your full name in the comment section). I've deleted both comments since they were incomplete, so please repost.
  3. Enabling your blog to accept comments - Click on Settings, then the Comments tab, then change "Comment Form Placement" to "Full Page." Click on "Save Settings" at the bottom of the page, and double check your Blog to make sure people can now add comments.
  4. Blog assignments 1, 2, and 3 will be due by Tuesday afternoon. I will LOCK the comments section on Tuesday, March 22, at 3 pm. Get cracking!
As always, hit me up if you have any questions.

See you Monday!

Extra Credit: The first person to give me an accurate rationale for why I addressed you all the way I did will receive 5 extra credit points! Complete sentences only because this is still English!

Assignment #3

Choose one blog from two different students from assignment #2.  Take a look at the blog entry rubric on this webpage and decide what score you think they should receive. You will comment on these two blogs with the following:

A. Your initials and your period number.
B. The score they should receive.
C. One strength and one weakness that should be addressed.

You will then post a comment to this assignment with your first initial, full last name, and your period number. You will post the links to both comments you made; the first comment to this post is an example of what your post should look like.

Your posts will be worth 2 minor grades.

Assignment #2

Choose two of the three following discussion topics. You will create a TEAR parargraph in the form of a blog for EACH of the discussion questions you choose to answer. Make sure to include the discussion topic, your first initial, full last name, and period number at the top of your blog. You will also post the link to your two blogs as a comment to this Assignment #2 blog (MINOR GRADE).

Discussion Topics:
a. Many works of literature deal with political or social issues. Analyze how Hosseini uses literary elements to explore the issue of domestic abuse (psychological and/or physical). Do not summarize the plot or action of the work you choose.
b. Many works of literature deal with political or social issues. Analyze how Hosseini uses literary elements to explore the issue of gender relations. Do not summarize the plot or action of the work you choose.
c. In many works of literature, past events can affect, positively or negatively, the present actions, attitudes or values of a character. Select a character from A Thousand Splendid Suns who must contend with some aspect of the past, either personal or societal. Analyze how the character’s relationship to the past contributes to the meaning of the work as a whole. Do not summarize the plot or action of the work you choose.

The first comment to this post is an example of the comment your should be posting once you have completed the assignment.

Assignment #1

Create your blog and post a link to your blog as a comment here (Other Grade). Make sure to include the initial of your first name, your full last name, and your period number at the beginning of your comment.

The first comment to this post is an example of the comment you should post when you are done with Assignment #1.

Welcome Students!

Over spring break you will be reading A Thousand Splendid Suns. I will  be posting blog topics here, which will be open for discussion, in addition to your homework assignments.  The work submitted here must be edited, refined, and of literary value.

If any questions arise during the break, please email me at ms[dot]delaguila[at]gmail[dot]com.
